Kolchak
From Glen Cook Wiki
The kingpin of TunFaire before Chodo Contague, Kolchak ruled the city for years, earning a reputation for being honest. Six years before the events in Sweet Silver Blues, his chief lieutenant Valentine Permanos disappeared with half of Kolchak's money. Despite a thorough search by all of Kolchak's forces, he was unable to find him.
Kolchak invested heavily in betting on D'Guni water spider races, which is how Morley Dotes came to be in his debt. Morley volunteered to find Valentine and bring him back in exchange for his debt, a bargain to which Kolchak agreed. When Morley returned with Valentine, he set up a "brookside" to make the exchange; he didn't tell Kolchak that Valentine had become a vampire. Kolchak died at Valentine's hands at the end of Sweet Silver Blues.
